Five Short Poems (That Don't Rhyme)

Author's Note

I admit, none of these poems rhyme. They do, however, aim at sparking a feeling, an emotion in the reader. I feel you'll enjoy these poems if you let my words and your own imagination interact. Read them twice (or more).

Love

A tear dropped from her eye.
He lifted his hand and
extended his finger.

Touching the tear,
it stuck to the tip of his finger.
He gently placed the tear
on his own cheek and said,
“I want to suffer your pain for you.”

Vacation

The van runs from the pop-up camper that is attached
to a hitch on the back, much like we are running on
a vacation to the beach, our lives still hitched behind us.

The van speaks its dissatisfaction by only giving us
17 miles to a gallon, highway.

It can’t let go of the camper until we arrive at our destination.

We, then, will also let go a little bit
while we dive into the waves.

The Small City

the small city
still has city lights
And I still have a balcony
And I'll never be less
moved each time
I step up to the edge
and appreciate with
the strength of admiration.

Skateboarding

the concrete water moves
like a conveyor belt
beneath the world's greatest
invention, connected to a
plank of tree.

Three Wonderful Instances

Jumping into a foggy-warm, lighted pool
On a cool, starry summer night
After running out, breathing steam
to get the beach ball.

The quick, mysterious tug of
a fish possibly hooked.

About to have their picture taken,
a couple 6-year-olds holding hands.
A fall setting: scarecrow + cornfield backdrop.
And smiling the freest smiles on Earth
- minus a couple front teeth.

LeeLee is right, not all poetry rhymes or should rhyme. Just write from your heart and let it flow. As with any form of writing, be true to yourself and it will be fine.

These are just fine. If you want something that rhymes, check out my HUBS as I write songs. Think of your poems as magical thoughts.

I love the free flow of your writing. DOES NOT HAVE TO RHYME. Many of mine don't or else they only rhyme in one place. No rules in my book.............voted up and interesting!
